Creating a Custom OCR Dictionary

For best results, when you define characters, capture three to five iterations of the same character.

To create a custom OCR Dictionary:

  1. Launch the SOLIDWORKS Inspection - OCR Editor by doing one of the following:
    • In the SOLIDWORKS Inspection main menu, click OCR Editor.
    • With a project open in SOLIDWORKS Inspection, on the Home tab, click Options. In the Options dialog box, on the Imaging/OCR page, click OCR Editor.
  2. Click Add Drawing (Drawing toolbar).
  3. In the Open dialog box, select a drawing file in .pdf, .tif, or .tiff format and click Open.
The document you select opens in a viewing area.
  4. Use the scroll bars and View tools to navigate to the characters to define.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • Click Extract (General toolbar) to select one or more characters and define them manually.

Under Extraction, type the Value to use for the selected characters.

You can use alphanumeric characters or symbols.

    • Click Auto Extract to select one or more characters and have the software attempt to recognize them.
The value and coordinates of the selected characters are listed in the table below the viewing area.

If a value is incorrect, you can select it in the table and modify it manually.
