Adding Coordinate Axes, Reference Axes, and Reference Planes

You can add coordinate axes, references axes, and reference planes to a graphics mesh body or a mesh BREP body by selecting facets, fins, or vertices. You use facets as planar references, facet fins as linear edge references, and facet vertices as point references.

Coordinate axes, reference axes, and reference planes are useful when you create a model based on a graphics mesh body or a mesh BREP body and you want to add geometry. This functionality is available for parts and assemblies.

Before adding coordinate axes, reference axes, and reference planes, turn on the Selection Filter toolbar to select facets, facet fins (edges), and facet vertices in the graphics area. For Cylindrical/Conical Faces in the Reference Axis PropertyManager, use Paint Select Facet or Tangent Select Facet to select groups of facets.

To add a reference plane between two facets:

  1. With a graphics body open, click Plane (Reference Geometry toolbar) or Insert > Reference Geometry > Plane.

  2. Click Toggle Selection Filter Toolbar (Standard toolbar) or press F5.
  3. Click Filter Mesh Facets to select only triangular facets.
  4. In the graphics area:
    1. Select a facet for the First Reference as shown.

    2. Select another facet for the Second Reference as shown.

The Mid Plane option is automatically selected for the first and second references in the PropertyManager.
  5. Click .
