Creating New Files from Existing Ones

When you export a hierarchy from Treehouse, you can save existing SOLIDWORKS documents as new copies.

When saving an existing document as a new copy, you must work from the top down. For example, if you have an existing assembly document in the hierarchy and you want to save a component of that assembly as a new document, you must first save the assembly as a new document.

To save an existing document as a new document:

  1. In the hierarchy, right-click an existing document and click Save As New Document.
  2. In the Save As New Document dialog box, enter a new name and properties for the new document.
  3. Click OK.
The node background becomes green to indicate that the node will be saved as a new document when you export the hierarchy to SOLIDWORKS documents.
