Symbol properties

The symbol properties dialog box is identical to the one used for schematic and line diagram symbols.

Contextual menu of symbol: Symbol properties

The symbol properties dialog box opens automatically any time you insert a symbol. You can also access the dialog box with the symbol Properties command in the symbol contextual menu.

According to the selected symbol, several properties can be disabled. If you select several symbols, only the common properties are enabled.

Associate with an existing mark

If you want to associate a symbol with an existing mark, select it in the list on the right, or manually give it the same mark and use the [= >] button to create an association.

At the top of the dialog box, filters can help you find an existing component.

Edit symbol

Mark

The symbol mark is automatically calculated according to the electrical project settings.

Mode: If you select the Automatic mode, the mark is calculated automatically according to the configuration settings. If you select Manual mode, you must enter the mark manually in the Mark setting.

Mark: Displays the automatic mark or used to enter the manual mark.

Root: Displays the root associated with the symbol depending on the symbol class.

Number: Displays the order number assigned to the symbol. You can change this number but you cannot use an existing number.

Permanent component: When the last symbol representing the component is deleted, the component is also deleted. If you check this box, the component is not deleted.

To delete a permanent component, use the command Delete component in its contextual menu in the Components tab (dockable panel).

Hierarchy

Class: Allows you to change the symbol classification. This is used when you assign a manufacturer part. It also allows you to define the root used during automatic marking.

Parent: Displays the name of the main component which a child or subcomponent is dependent on (such as a PLC card and its rack).

Location / Function: During symbol insertion, the location (function) is automatically taken from the drawing, or the location (function) outline if the symbol was inserted inside one. You can assign a different location (function) by clicking the button [...] and selecting the location (function) you want.

Manufacturer data

This data comes from the manufacturer part, but can be manually modified. The data types are specified in the definition of the class.

User data / Translatable data

The user data fields can be used to enter all information that you would like to manage for the component.
