Data installation

Running a complete install or a reinstallation creates a temporary directory called UPDATE where all libraries, manufacturer catalogs, report configurations, configuration files will be placed.  The user can then choose how data will be updated.

On launching SOLIDWORKS Electrical, as long as the temporary UPDATE folder exists, a wizard will be displayed to help the user manage the data update process.

If the update is canceled, the next time SOLIDWORKS Electrical is launched, the option will automatically be displayed.

Data type selection

The second screen in the wizard allows you to select the types of data that are to be updated.

Check the data types you want to include in the update process.

It is strongly recommended that all data types are selected for the first time.

Click Next to continue or uncheck any data types that should be excluded from the update process.

The update wizard compares the current data against the latest installation data.

Select the action to be taken for each data type.

Action definition

The Shift - Ctrl - Ctrl+A... keys can be employed to make multiple selections of the listed data.

Add: This data does not exist in the current installation and will be added.

Replace: The existing data will be overwritten with the latest version.

Do nothing: The new data will not be installed and the existing information will be retained.

Keep both: The existing information will be retained and the new information installed with a new name.

Update: This option relates only to manufacturer catalogs (cables and materials). The catalog references will be automatically updated.

A default action type will be suggested; this is defined based on the following rules.

- New data will be added.

- If existing data has been modified it will automatically be marked as do nothing.

- If data exists and has not been changed by the user but any new files have been marked as updated by the software publisher, it will be marked as to be replaced.

- Catalogs of cables and equipment are always marked as to be updated.

Data types

Symbols - title blocks -SOLIDWORKS files: The assistant displays the element names, descriptions, modification date, and the name of the user that created/modified the current elements. Where users want to retain an existing element and install the latest version of the same elements, a different name should be assigned to the new element.

Cables and manufacturer catalogs: The catalogs are managed in their entirety (all of the manufacturer catalog references). When a reference is not present, it is automatically added. When a reference exists and has been modified by the user, the new reference is not installed. When the reference exists, has not been modified by the user, but has been updated by the software publisher, the new reference is automatically installed, overwriting the existing reference.

Project templates: Only new models and models that have been modified by the software publisher (different modification dates), are installed. Models created by the user are retained.

Report configurations: Report configurations created or modified by the user are retained. The new configurations and those modified by the software publisher are automatically installed.

ERP database: The update wizard updates the MDB that has been provided with the software. When the MDB has been altered by the user, it will not be updated.

Configuration files: Only new configuration files and those that have been modified by the publisher (different modification dates) are installed. Configuration files created by the user are retained.

Palettes: Only new palettes and those that have been changed by the software publisher (different modification dates) are installed. Palettes created by the user are retained.

Launch data installation

The last tab of the wizard shows a summary of the data types to be managed.

Click the Finish button to launch the install. This process can take some time depending on the amount of data that is to be processed.

On completion of the setup process, the UPDATE directory will be automatically removed.
