File shortcut

The File shortcut feature allows you to create a link with a personal file stored outside SOLIDWORKS Electrical. The file shortcut is added to the electrical project such a drawing or a data file and it is displayed in the Pages tab of the dockable panel.

Broken Link

If you move a file managed by a shortcut, this one is automatically updated. However, if you delete or rename a file managed by a shortcut the link is broken.

If you want to open a file managed by a shortcut, and if the link is broken, a message box opens, displaying options:

Delete shortcut: The shortcut is removed from the electrical project.

Search the file manually: A dialog box of file selection opens allowing you to assign a new file.

Archive electrical project containing file shortcut

A file managed by a shortcut is not stored in the electrical project and when you want to archive an electrical project containing shortcuts, a message box opens displaying options:

Include shortcut targets into archive: The files managed by the shortcut are automatically copied in the electrical project. They are converted into Data files. If the shortcut link is broken, a message appears to fix it.

Do not include shortcut targets into archive: The shortcuts are not removed. If you unarchive the electrical project on the same workstation, the links will be kept. However, if you unarchive the electrical project on another workstation, the links will be broken.
