Route Harnesses

The design of the harness, in terms of components, runs under SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic. SOLIDWORKS Electrical 3D only allows for the automatic routing of harness cables and wires.

The Harness management

The Harness management allows you to view and delete harness component parts.  Adding items is possible in SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematic.

Harness routing

Menu: Tools > SOLIDWORKS Electrical > Route Harnesses

The dockable panel changes to display the routing options.

Several of these parameters are saved in the SOLIDWORKS Electrical file, they are specific to the file. The others are saved in the registry and they are common to all SOLIDWORKS Electrical files.

Routing Analysis

Show errors: This option, when activated, lets you display a report at the end of the routing. This report shows all routing errors. Click the Help button on a line of the report to obtain information about the routing error.

Select renderer type

Add tangency: Allows curves to be automatically generated at the end of the straight lines.

Harness selection

All harnesses: Launches routing across all of the electrical project harnesses for which all components are present in the assembly.

Selected harnesses: Launches the routing on your choice of the electrical project harnesses. Click the Harness selector button to select the harnesses you wish to route.

Routing parameters

The first parameter allows you to enter the distance between two routing paths.

The second parameter allows you to enter the distance between a connection point and a routing path.

Manual harness: If you activate this option, the "From to list" is imported, the route is not created and only the guidelines are available. You are free to route the harness manually.

The graph allows you to quickly view connections between components. There are two buttons available: one for display, and one for deletion.

Harness flattening and integration into electrical project

Once the harness is routed, you can generate a flattening.

Use the SOLIDWORKS Flatten route command in the Routing menu or in SOLIDWORKS Electrical menu the to generate this view.

The file can then be added as an electrical project drawing with the 2D drawing/Create a drawing in the project command.
