Creating Trusses and Assigning Materials

For parts with structural members, the software creates beam elements by default. You must edit the definition of the beams to change them to trusses.

1. To create trusses from all structural members:
   1. In the Simulation study tree, under the beam_truss folder, hold Ctrl and select all nine structural members.
   2. Right-click and select Edit Definition.
   3. In the PropertyManager, under Type, select Truss.
   4. Click .
2. To assign materials:
   1. Right-click the beam_truss folder and select Apply Material to All Bodies.
   2. Expand the Custom Materials folder and select beam_truss > User Defined. Assign a custom material with the following properties:
      • Elastic modulus = 3e7 psi
      • Poisson's ratio = 0.3
      • Mass density = 0.28 lb/in3
      • Yield Strength = 90,000 psi
      • Units = English (IPS)
