Assigning Material to the Chips: Process

To assign material properties to the chips:

  1. In the Simulation study tree, hold Ctrl and select the four chips.
  2. Click Apply Material (Simulation CommandManager).
  3. In the dialog box, right-click Custom Materials and select New Category.
  4. Right-click the New Category folder and select New Material. Then, select the newly defined material.
  5. Under Material properties:
    1. Select Linear Elastic Isotropic in Model Type.
    2. Select SI - N/m^2 in Units.
    3. Type Chip Material for Name.
  6. In the material properties table, click inside the Value box for each material property shown in the first table in Assigning Material to the Chips: Properties (except KX) and type its value.
The Elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio are not needed for thermal analysis. They will be used in an associated static study later on.
  7. To assign a temperature-dependent thermal conductivity (KX), do the following:
    1. In the Value box of the Thermal Conductivity property, select Temperature Dependent from the menu.
    2. On the Tables & Curves tab, select Thermal Conductivity in X vs Temperature in Type.
    3. In the Table data box:
      • Set Units to K (Kelvin) and W/(m.K) respectively.
      • Type the temperature-thermal conductivity data pairs as they appear in the second table above.
      • To insert a new data row, double-click under the Points column.
The Preview area shows the curve as you enter its data. To view the actual curve, click View.
  8. Click Apply and Close.
