Defining a Goal and Running the Study

The objective of this Optimization Design Study is to minimize the volume of the part.
  1. On the MinVolume Design Study tab, in the Goals section, from the list, select the Volume1 sensor.
The sensor appears in the Goals section.
  2. For Volume1, select Minimize.
You can also define multiple goals in an Optimization Design Study. You can assign weights for each goal. The higher the weight of the goal, the more important it is to optimize that goal. The program modifies the final weight of the goal as: (weight of the goal you type)/(sum of the weights of all goals you type).
  3. On the MinVolume Design Study tab, select Run.

The program runs 13 iterations (excluding the initial and optimal scenarios) since you defined a High quality study and three design variables. After running the experiments, the program calculates the optimal design variables by forming a response function relating the goal to the variables.
