Defining an Optimization Goal and Constraints

You define an optimization goal to reduce the mass of the inner disk rotor by 75%. The optimized shape has the largest possible stiffness under the given mass reduction.

  1. In the Optimization study tree, right-click Goals and Constraints , and click Best Stiffness to Weight ratio (default) .
  2. Under Mass Constraint (Default), for Reduce mass by (percentage), type 75.
  3. Select Stress/Factor of Safety Constraint. For Stress Constraint and Specified factor, type 80.
This stress constraint enforces the condition that the disk part after optimization cannot experience stresses larger that 80% of the material's yield strength.
The part you seek to optimize with Topology experiences elastic behavior in the linear stress range. The part's geometry after optimization should also experience stresses below the material's yield strength.
  4. Click .
