Meshing the Model and Running the Analysis

You apply the default global mesh size with a draft-quality standard mesh.

  1. In the Optimization study tree, right-click Mesh , and click Create Mesh .
  2. Expand Mesh Parameters. The default global mesh size is approximately 3.155 mm.
When you apply a Preserved Area Depth control, make sure that the default mesh size is smaller than the defined preserved area depth. The default mesh size is smaller than 5 mm.
  3. Expand Advanced, and select Draft Quality Mesh.
When you initially run a topology study, select a draft-quality mesh for a faster analysis time. Select a high-quality mesh for a topology study with stress, displacement, or factor of safety constraints. A high-quality mesh increases the overall analysis time of a topology study.
  4. Expand Options and click Run (solve) the analysis.
  5. Click .
The Optimization study dialog appears. While the study is running, you can view convergence graphs by clicking View Convergence Data and Graphs > Show Graph. The convergence graphs shows the progress of the optimization algorithm to reach the goal, target mass, and defined constraints through iterations. It takes approximately 11 minutes for the optimization analysis to complete.
When the optimization analysis completes, the Material Mass plot appears in the graphics area. The software adds the Material Mass plot under the Results folder of the Optimization study tree.
