BOM Dialog Box

The BOM dialog box lets you manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and BOM data in the drawing.

The dialog box appears when you use the AM_BOM command.

BOM Dialog Box Elements

Dialog Box Toolbar

You can use the following toolbar buttons to manage BOMs listed in the BOMs list:

Function Icon Description
Activate Sets the selected BOM as the active BOM and displays its associated parts within the BOM contents list.
Export BOM Exports BOM data to a .csv file (Comma separated values file) or .txt file (Format text separated with tabulator).
Import BOM Imports BOM data from a .csv file or .txt file that was created using the Export option.
Delete BOM Deletes the BOM selected in the BOMs list.

You can use the following toolbar buttons to use BOM data related functions:

Function Icon Description
View (drop-down list) Lets you select between the Expanded view and Structured view.
Expand/Collapse Assemblies Expands or collapses all assemblies in the BOM.

You can use the following toolbar buttons to use display functions related to BOM items in the graphics area:

Function Icon Description
Zoom to Zooms to the parts associated with the selected rows of the BOM.
The BOM dialog box closes temporarily.
If the selected rows are associated with several instances of the element, you can use the Next option to step through each instance one by one. When you return to the BOM dialog box, the program restores the original view of the graphics area.
Highlight Highlights the geometry associated with the selected rows of the BOM.
The BOM dialog box closes temporarily.
If the selected row is associated with several instances of the element, you can use the Next option to step through each instance one by one. When you return to the BOM dialog box, the program restores the original view of the graphics area.

You can use the following toolbar buttons to use functions related to part items (rows) and BOM list properties (columns):

Function Icon Description
Insert Column Left Inserts a column to the left of the column that is currently selected in the Bill of Materials contents list. Opens the Select Columns dialog box where you can specify columns that are not yet included in the Bill of Materials contents list.
Insert Column Right Inserts a column to the right of the column that is currently selected in the Bill of Materials contents list. Opens the Select Columns dialog box where you can specify columns that are not yet included in the Bill of Materials contents list.
Remove Column Removes the selected column from the Bill of Materials contents list.
Add Item Adds a part to the Bill of Materials contents list. The dialog box closes temporarily and you are prompted to specify in the graphics area parts that are not yet included in the BOM.
Insert Item Adds an empty row below under last row into the Bill of Materials contents list. Such rows can represent user-defined parts that have no equivalent by geometries in the graphics area.
Insert Item Above Adds an empty row above the current row into the Bill of Materials contents list. Such rows can represent user-defined parts that have no equivalent by geometries in the graphics area.
Insert Item Below Adds an empty row below the current row into the Bill of Materials contents list. Such rows can represent user-defined parts that have no equivalent by geometries in the graphics area.
Delete Item Removes the selected row. Nested items are removed as well.
Merge Row Merges two or more selected rows. You can merge only rows that have identical properties. This option is usually used when the dialog box displays the same part with two separate entries in the parts list.
Split Row Splits a row with a quantity greater than 1 into two separate rows. You are prompted to select the part references that should appear in separated rows. You can use this option to split rows that you have previously merged.
Sort Displays the Sort dialog box, where you can specify options to sort the Bill of Materials contents list. See Sort Dialog Box.
Create a part reference with data from the selected row The dialog box closes and you can specify the part reference in the graphics area. This option is available only when you select a row that represents a user-defined part that has no equivalent by geometries in the graphics area.
Remove overrides Removes overrides from the current selection and restores their default values.
Create parts list based on the current BOM Creates a parts list based on the active BOM in the graphics area.
Create balloons based on the current BOM Creates balloons based on the current BOM in the graphics area.

List of BOMs

Displays the Bills of Materials that exist in the current drawing.

Right-click on the list to activate, rename or delete the selected BOM.

BOM Contents List

Various columns are available in the Bill of Materials contents list, depending on the part types that were located in the graphics area. Typically, the following columns are in the list:

Column Description
Item Item number of the part
Quantity The number of the part for which the associated part reference stands
Name Name of the part
Material Material of the part
Note Description for the part
Standard Standard corresponding to the part
Measurement Measure of the part
Units Used units

Sort Dialog Box

The Sort dialog box lets you specify options to sort the Bill of Materials contents list.

Key 1, Key 2, Key 3

Lets you specify up to three sort criteria. You can modify the sorting order separately for each column. Key 1 refers to the primary sort column.

Bill of Materials contents list rows are first sorted by the first rule. Rows with identical values according to the first sort rule are then sorted according to the second one.

Ascending

Arranges the list from the lowest value to the highest.

Descending

Arranges the list from the highest value to the lowest.
