Mechanical Revision Tables

Use a Mechanical Toolbox revision table to track revisions in a drawing.

A revision table consists of a title and header row and individual revision rows. When you create a revision row, you can insert revision symbols that are linked to the row.

You can define the format and behavior of revision tables using the Revision Table screen of the Settings dialog box. In particular, you can define how the Toolbox software creates revision tables in drawings with multiple sheet formats.

There are three possibilities for inserting revision tables:

  • On a drawing sheet with the Revision Table setting Multiple sheet style set to On Sheet 1

If you use drawing sheets to show a part in different views and annotate the part, you can insert a revision table on one drawing sheet. The first revision table you insert becomes the active revision table. You can reference that table from other drawing sheets.

You can insert the first revision table on any drawing sheet. However, the software always refers to the location of the table as "Sheet 1."

When you use the Revision Table commands on the drawing sheet where you create the active revision table, they have the following effects:

Insert Table Creates the active revision table.
Insert Revision Adds revision rows to the active table.
Insert Revision Symbol Adds a symbol to the drawing sheet. The symbol is linked to the most recent revision row.
Edit Table Lets you modify or delete a revision row, or delete, reformat, or reindex the active revision table.

When you use the commands on other drawing sheets, they have the following effects:

Insert Table Creates a table that references the active revision table.

You must insert this table if you want to add symbols.

Insert Revision Prompts you to activate the revision table on Sheet 1 (the active revision table), where you can insert a revision row.
Insert Revision Symbol Adds symbols to the drawing sheet.
Edit Table Prompts you to activate the revision table on Sheet 1 (the active revision table), where you can modify or delete a revision row, or delete, reformat, or reindex the active revision table.
  • On a multiple drawing sheets with the Revision Table setting Multiple sheet style set to Independent

You can insert separate revision tables on each drawing sheet. These tables do not reference each other.

  • The Model tab

If you use the Model tab to create the geometry of the drawing, you can insert a revision table there. This revision table is independent of revision tables on sheets.

A revision table you insert on the Model tab is visible on sheets that have viewports. However, you can only insert revision symbols on the Model tab; you cannot add revision symbols that are based on the Model tab revision table to drawing sheets.
