Equipotential update mode

Thanks to its Client/Server technology, SOLIDWORKS Electrical is a real-time software. All manipulations done in the electrical project, automatically update the electrical project database and the graphics of the drawings. This always helps to work on up-to-date drawings, mainly if several users work on the same electrical project. But on large electrical projects, this technology can be penalizing because it costs a lot of time.

For example, when you insert a symbol on a wire, this wire is cut in two segments. The equipotential of each segment is automatically calculated, and when this segment impacts several wires on several drawings, the process can be long (a few seconds to several minutes according to the size of the electrical project).

SOLIDWORKS Electrical has a special mode; Deferred mode, that allows you to disable the automatic equipotential calculation when you manipulate the wires. The process is delayed until you need the information, for example when you want to manage the wiring cabling order, or to print the drawings. The Deferred mode is transparent to the user, only wire or equipotential numbers are not displayed and the software does not control the equipotential conflicts. If you use a feature that needs the equipotential information (such as Wire cabling order, or Exports), the process is automatically started to obtain this information but you can also, manually launch the update.

Activate the Deferred mode

Menu: Process > Activate

This feature works as a lock, click the button to activate the mode and click on it again to deactivate it. When the Deferred mode is activated, the Update connections button of the Process menu is available, and in the dockable panel, the electrical project icon changes to identify the status.

When you activate the Deferred mode, a message is sent to all the users working on this electrical project through the Collaborative Server, to warn them that the Deferred mode is active.

Equipotential update

Menu: Process > Update connections

The equipotentials are automatically updated according to your needs (when you export or print the drawings). But, when the Deferred mode is activated, you can manually launch this update by using the Update connection command.
