Import from Excel

Menu: Import/Export > Import from Excel

This feature allows you to import specific Excel files to update electrical electrical project data. These Excel files must come from an Export to Excel managed by SOLIDWORKS Electrical.

Like the export to Excel , the Import from Excel command uses a wizard to help you manage the data import.

Step 1: Welcome to the Excel import wizard

Add: Allows you to select the Excel file you want to import. A selection dialog box opens in which you can select one or more Excel files.

Remove: Allows you to remove the selected Excel file.

The Excel file is compared with the saved point created during the export. If you try to import an Excel file in which you didn't modify data, a dialog box opens telling you that is not necessary to import the file.

If you wish to import several Excel files containing the same data type, you cannot import these files at the same time.

If the original saved point isn't found, you can also import the file. Data is compared with the data stored in the electrical project database.

Step 2: Select object to import

The second step of the wizard displays the list of changes and conflicts. You can find one tab per modified data type.

Each tab displays the list of modified elements.

When a change is possible, the value is displayed in a green cell.

In the first column (check the box), select the elements you want to import. If you don't select an element, the value in the electrical project database is preserved.

In the final step of the wizard, a dialog box opens asking you if you want to delete or keep the saved point.

Conflict management

If data was modified in the electrical project since the Excel export and modified in the Excel file, there is a conflict, which will be identified in red with a specific icon.

Edit conflict: Select the cell displaying the conflict and click the Edit conflict button. A dialog box opens, allowing you to select the data you want.

- Value from project: The value displayed comes from the database electrical project.

- Value from imported file: The value comes from the Excel file.

- Original value: The value comes from the saved point.

Display only conflicts: This option, when activated, displays only the elements that are conflicting.
