Releasing a Fixture in a Nonlinear Study

You can release a fixed degree of freedom during a nonlinear analysis.

To release a fixture in a nonlinear study:

  1. Create a nonlinear study.
  2. In the Fixture PropertyManager:
    1. Under Advanced, select Use Reference Geometry.
    2. For Faces, Edges, Vertices for Fixture , select a geometry entity for which you want to release a degree of freedom.
    3. Enter a nonzero value in the field of the appropriate translation or rotation to release.
For example, enter 0.1 mm for Along Plane Dir 2 .
    4. Under Variation with Time, select Curve > Edit.
    5. Under Curve data, in the X column, enter the time data points that define the variation of the fixture state (released or fixed) during the analysis.
    6. In the Y column:
      • For the time steps that you want to release the selected degree of freedom, click the down arrow and select Off. The degree of freedom that you selected in step 2c is released (free to move) for these time steps.
      • For the time steps that you want to activate the fixed degree of freedom, enter 0. The degree of freedom that you selected in step 2c is fixed for these time steps.

If you enter a value other than 0 and less than 1E8, this value is a multiplier to the numerical value you entered in step 2c. The software applies an appropriate prescribed displacement or rotation to the selected geometry entity.

    7. Click OK to close the Time curve dialog box.
    8. Close the Fixture PropertyManager.
