Applying Prescribed Displacement

In order to compress the O-ring into the groove, a prescribed displacement of 0.056 inches is applied to the bottom face of the top plate component. This displacement is equal to the distance between this face and top horizontal faces of the groove before loading.

To apply a prescribed displacement:

  1. In the Simulation study tree, right-click the Fixtures icon and select Advanced Fixtures.
  2. In the PropertyManager, under Advanced (Use Reference Geometry), do the following:
    1. Choose Use Reference Geometry.
    2. Click inside the Face, Edge, Plane, Axis for Direction box , then from the flyout FeatureManager design tree, click Front Plane of the assembly.
    3. Click inside Faces, Edges, Vertices for Fixture box , then click the bottom face of the top plate component as shown in the figure.


  3. In the PropertyManager, under Translations, do the following:
    1. Set Unit to in.
    2. Click Along Plane Dir 2 , then type -0.056 in the value box.
  4. In the PropertyManager, under Variation with Time, make sure that Linear is selected.
  5. Click PM_OK.gif.
