Symbol management: Properties

 

Opens the properties dialog box for the symbol to modify the data associated with the symbol.

 

If the symbol already exists, the left side of the dialog box displays a preview of the edit mode (with attributes and connection points).

According to the selected symbol, several properties can be disabled. If you select several symbols, only the common properties are enabled.

General

Title: When a symbol is created, the title is automatically added. This title must be unique and you can change it if necessary.

Description: Describes the symbol. If you select Thumbnail mode in the Management dialog box, the description text appears under the thumbnail. The symbols are placed in alphabetical order by their description. Description is available in all languages by clicking the specific icon. The language selector opens allowing you to select the languages you want.

Class: Defines the class in which the symbol is stored.

Symbol type: Defines the type of symbol:

Multiwire symbols groups insertable symbols into scheme drawings.

Line diagram symbols groups insertable symbols into line diagram drawings.

Black box symbols groups symbols that can be used for a black box.

Terminal symbols groups symbols representing the terminals.

Origin - destination symbols groups symbols used in origin-destination management.

Symbols to draw terminal strips groups symbols used to draw the terminal strips.

Symbols for cross references groups symbols used to represent cross references.

Symbols for PLC card drawings groups symbols used to represent PLC boards.

Cabinet layout footprint symbols groups symbols used for 2D cabinet layouts.

Cable labels groups symbols used to represent cable labels.

Connection labels groups symbols used to represent connection labels.

Wire labels groups symbols used to place wire labels.

Equipotential labels groups symbols used to place equipotential labels.

Location labels groups symbols used to place location labels.

Passive symbols groups passive symbols that have not a mark. They are stored in the database for the electrical project, but are not taken into account in processing or reports.

Drawing unit system: Defines the unit mode with which the symbol was drawn. When you create a new symbol, SOLIDWORKS Electrical uses the template file corresponding to the unit system you selected.

Library: Defines the library in which the symbol is classed.

Manufacturer part

Manufacturer: Defines the title of the manufacturer. This parameter cannot be dissociated from the Reference parameter.

Reference: Associates a manufacturer part with the symbol. This manufacturer part will automatically be associated with the component when inserted. Click [...] to assign a manufacturer part.

System

Creator: Displays the origin of the object (System = provided with the software installation, User = created by a user, and Modified system = provided with the software installation and modified by the user)

Created by: Displays the name of the user who created the object.

Creation date: Displays the date of the creation of the object.

Modified by: Displays the name of the user who modified the object.

Modification date: Displays the date of the modification of the object.

Characteristics

Mark root:  Displays the mark root to use when inserting the symbol. If no value is entered, the root associated with the class is used.

Associated macro: Associates a macro with the symbol. When the symbol is inserted, select Insert associated macro in the dockable panel or the Components tab in the contextual menu of the component.

Standard: Defines the standard used for the symbol.

Cross references type: Defines the default cross references level for the symbol. You can change it when the symbol is inserted.

Terminal type: Allows you to define the symbol of terminal type, associated with this symbol, that can be used to generate the terminal strip drawings. To use this symbol, you must activate the Insert custom symbol parameter in the Terminal strip drawing configuration. This value propagates to all components of the electrical project using this symbol.

Terminal strip symbol: Allows you to define the terminal strip symbol, associated with this symbol, that can be used to generate the terminal strip drawings. To use this symbol, you must activate the Insert custom symbol parameter in the Terminal strip drawing configuration. This value propagates to all components of the electrical project using this symbol.

Options

Display connection points: Shows connection points in the scheme.

Keep attributes orientation: When selected, the attributes do not rotate with the symbol.
