Reports and Design rules managements

A report is a list which is useful for production or manufacturing (such as a list of equipment or cables).

Design rules are lists that can be used to extract data that does not satisfy the basic design rules for an electrical scheme (for example, a list of symbols without manufacturer parts or a list of non-connected wires).

In order to help you choose design rule configurations, you can download the Design Rules.proj.tewzip electrical project in which the different cases managed by the design rules are listed.

These two report Management dialog boxes are based on the same features and are managed in the same way.

Menu: Electrical project > Reports

Dockable panel > Contextual menu of the electrical project: Electrical project > Report management

In this chapter and the chapters common to reports and design rules, the generic term Report will be used to refer both to Report and Design rule.

Reports retrieve data stored in the electrical project database. The data can be generated in the form of drawings or exported to different file formats such as Excel or text files. that can be accessed outside SOLIDWORKS Electrical.

The reports are based on report configurations that provide layout and formatting data. SOLIDWORKS Electrical has a number of standard configurations, although users can create their own.

The Report management (Design rule management) allows you to manage the reports you wish to use in the electrical project. The left-hand side of the dialog box displays the list of report configurations used in the electrical project. The right-hand side displays the results of the selected report.

Add: Allows you to add a new report configuration in the electrical project.

Add similar: Allows you to add a new and similar report configuration in the electrical project.

Delete: Removes the selected reports.

Properties: Edits the selected report configuration.

Schedule: Allows you to manage the order in which the reports will be generated.

Update: Updates data of reports when the software is used in Client/Server mode (data can be modified by another user).

Add filter: Opens the Filter edition dialog box to create a new filter.

Edit filter: Opens the Filter edition dialog box to manage filters.

Generate drawings: Generates or updates the report drawings.

Excel export: Exports to a Microsoft Excel file the electrical project data using the report configurations.

Txt export: Exports to a text file the electrical project data using the report configurations.

XML export: Exports to an XML file the electrical project data using the report configurations.

Book: Allows you to filter the report preview on the selected book.

Data row: Select the number of records that you want to display on the report preview.

Break condition: Select this option to display the Sort and break column on the report preview. This column will not be generated in the report drawings.

Using links

The report preview can include links to navigate to the electrical project elements, such as symbols, location properties or manufacturer parts. A link is materialized by an underlined blue text. To use the links, click the text (default link) or use the contextual menu to select the element (if several objects are associated with the object).

To create links in the reports, use the Go To setting in the Report configuration.

The action done when you click the link depends on the linked object.
