Saving Files

You can save documents as the following file types:

To save the active document:

Click Save , or File, Save, or press Ctrl+S.

  • eDrawings documents are saved immediately.

  • For other types of documents, the Save As dialog box appears.

To save the active document to another file type:

  1. Click File, Save As.

  2. Select a file type for Save as type, verify the file name, select export options, and click Save.

When you save a CAD document as an eDrawings file, the document is saved as the appropriate eDrawings file type.

Export Options

Select from these export options, which are available depending on the type of file you are saving:

  • Enable measure. Enables measurement by SolidWorks eDrawings Professional users and by all eDrawings users if the file is review-enabled.

  • Save with shaded data. For drawings only. Saves the shaded data from the drawing document in the published eDrawings file.

  • Allow STL Export. Allows the recipient of the eDrawings file to export it as an STL file. See also Saving Files as STL Files.
