Saving Files as Zip Files

You can save files as SolidWorks eDrawings Zip (*.zip) files, which contain the SolidWorks eDrawings Viewer and the active SolidWorks eDrawings file. When you unzip eDrawings Zip file and run the eDrawings executable file, the embedded eDrawings Viewer is extracted with the embedded eDrawings file displayed.

This functionality is not available in 64-bit eDrawings.

To save files as eDrawings Zip files:

  1. Click File, Save As.

  2. Set Save as type to eDrawings Zip Files (*.zip).

  3. Select from the export options.

  1. Type the File name, then click Save.

To open the eDrawings Zip file and run the eDrawings executable:

  1. In a software compression application, extract the eDrawings Zip file.

  2. In Windows Explorer, double-click the eDrawings executable.

The embedded eDrawings Viewer opens and displays the embedded eDrawings file. The eDrawings Viewer used is the same version that was embedded with the eDrawings executable. You can use this eDrawings Viewer to view other documents.

When you close the eDrawings application launched from an eDrawings executable file, if eDrawings is not installed on that computer, a message prompts you to install eDrawings. The prompt appears every fifth time you exit the eDrawings application launched from the executable file.
