Measure-enabled Files

Measure-enabled files allow you to make exact measurements of models with the Measure tool.

Whenever you save an eDrawings file from the SOLIDWORKS software or from eDrawings, you can set the measure permissions.

Measure-enabled vs. Measure-disabled

To protect the details of a design, you can make measure-disabled eDrawings files. You can save measure-enabled files as measure-disabled files. However, once a file is saved as measure-disabled, you cannot make it measure-enabled.

You can disable measurement when you first create an eDrawings file. You cannot change this status once an eDrawings file is created; you must republish it.

Enabling Measure

To enable Measure, do one of the following:

  • In eDrawings, in the Save As dialog box, select Enable measure.
  • In SOLIDWORKS:
    1. Click File > Save As.
    2. In the Save As dialog box, in Save as type, select eDrawings and click Save.
    3. In the Save Configurations to eDrawings file dialog box, click Options.
    4. In the System Options - EDRW/EPRT/EASM dialog box, select Enable measure and click OK.
    5. In the Save Configurations to eDrawings file dialog box, click OK.

Disabling Measure

To disable Measure, do one of the following:

  • In eDrawings, in the Save As dialog box, clear Enable measure.
    If the file is already measure-disabled, the Enable measure option is hidden.
  • In SOLIDWORKS:
    1. Click File > Save As.
    2. In the Save As dialog box, in Save as type, select eDrawings and click Save.
    3. In the Save Configurations to eDrawings file dialog box, click Options.
    4. In the System Options - EDRW/EPRT/EASM dialog box, clear Enable measure and click OK.
    5. In the Save Configurations to eDrawings file dialog box, click OK.
