Creating a Static Study and Meshing the Model

  1. Click the down arrow on Simulation Advisor (Simulation CommandManager), select New Study, then click .
A static study is created by default.
  2. In the Simulation study tree, select SurfaceBody 1 and SurfaceBody 2 underneath shovel. Right-click and click Edit Definition. In the PropertyManager:
    1. Enter 0.0625 for Shell thickness.
    2. Click .
  3. Click the down arrow on Run (Simulation CommandManager), and select Create Mesh .
  4. In the PropertyManager, apply the recommended mesh settings.
    Mesh Parameters settings
    Standard mesh Selected
Global Size Calculated by the mesh algorithm
Tolerance Calculated by the mesh algorithm
    Automatic transition Selected
    Advanced settings
Jacobian points (for solid mesh only) 16 points
Automatic trials for solid (for solid mesh only) Selected
    Number of trials 3
    Remesh failed parts independently Selected
    Mesh Quality High
  5. Click .
The mesh does not have to share common nodes at the touching boundaries between the scoop and the handle to get accurate stress results. You may apply a local bonded interaction between the touching edges of the handle and the scoop face to run a simulation.
