Adding Datum Identification Symbols

A datum is a plane, a straight line, or a point that are used as reference when measuring and locating geometric entitie, geometric tolerances...s.

Datum identification symbols identify datum features for a feature control frame symbol.

For example, you can use a datum identification symbol to mark the center of a hole which is used to

Use the AM_DatumIdentifier command to create the following types of datum identification dymbols:

  • Datum identification symbol with a surface indication line

The command offers various geometric dimensioning and tolerancing symbols (GD&T) to specify geometric tolerances with feature control frames.

The datum identification symbol consists of the following elements:

  1. Datum identifier
  2. Datum notes
  3. Thread notes
  4. Leader arrow
  5. Symbol

To create a datum identification symbol:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • On the ribbon, click Mechanical Annotate > Symbols > Datum Identifier.
    • On the menu, click Mechanical Annotate > Symbols > Datum Identifier.
    • Type AM_DatumIdentifier.
  2. In the graphics area, specify an entity to attach the datum identification simbol to.
  3. Specify the start point for the leader.
