Toolbox Migration Scenarios

There are several migration scenarios for Toolbox integration, depending on your version of SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS PDM, how you previously managed Toolbox, and how you want to manage Toolbox files now.

You can:

  • Upgrade both SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS PDM to the latest version and manage a single Toolbox directory in the vault. (Recommended)
    1. Install the latest version of SOLIDWORKS PDM.
    2. Copy all Toolbox files to the vault. For instructions on copying Toolbox files and modifying the Toolbox path, see Migrating from Partial to Complete Toolbox Integration or Migrating a Shared Toolbox.
    3. Run the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager to upgrade SOLIDWORKS and Toolbox. See Upgrading to Manage Toolbox Entirely in the Vault.
    4. Configure Toolbox in both SOLIDWORKS PDM and SOLIDWORKS. See Configuring Toolbox in SOLIDWORKS PDM and SOLIDWORKS.
  • Upgrade both SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS PDM to the latest version and continue using two directories for Toolbox parts.
    1. Install the latest version of SOLIDWORKS PDM
    2. Do not change the location of any Toolbox files.
    3. Run the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager to upgrade SOLIDWORKS and Toolbox.
    4. Use the Toolbox dialog box in the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration tool to specify the path to the folder in the vault that is used to store configurations of Toolbox parts.
Specifying the path in the SOLIDWORKS PDM Administration tool replaces the configuration method used previously, where the path was specified using the Options dialog box for the SOLIDWORKS PDM add-in in SOLIDWORKS.
